About Our Phlebotomy Certification
The Westchester School of Medical and Dental Assistants, WSMDA, is proud to present its 80-hour Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Course. Our classes are presented during ten sessions, held for eight hours a day on Saturdays.
WSMDA Phlebotomy course includes theory and hands-on instruction. The comprehensive CPT course at WSMDA is designed to teach the students technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy.

Coursework includes the collection of blood samples and venipuncture required to become a Phlebotomist in the healthcare field. Coursework includes:
- Introduction to Phlebotomy & Infection Control, Legal Issues in Healthcare
- Introduction to Human Anatomy & Physiology

Whether attendees want to start or advance their career in health care to become a phlebotomy technician, this course prepares students to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam (CPT). Our instructors come with clinical laboratory experience and are New York State licensed to teach the WSDA CPT Course.

Working mostly in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, doctor’s offices, nursing homes and blood banks,the typical tasks for a phlebotomist includes:
- Collecting blood and non-blood specimens for testing
- Prepping patients for transfusions
- Supporting doctors or hospitals with research
- Drawing blood for donation
